Do the Boston Celtics have some gas left in their tank? – NBA Feature - Part 2
Rajon Rondo – The Leader
In recent times NBA has changed into a battle for young and athletic point guards and one Rajon Rondo is undoubtedly in the mix for being regarded as the best in the business.
Rondo is coming off from one of his best seasons in the NBA and it was only until the second half that he was able to get into his own. The campaign which saw Boston lose out to Miami in the Eastern Conference Finals saw Rondo
pull some of the most brilliant performances of his career.
He finished the regular season with 24 straight games with double-digit assists which helped him cement himself among the legendary point guards like Magic Johnson and John Stockton.
If the regular season exploits were brilliant, Rondo’s performances in the playoffs were a thing of beauty. By being the constant leader for his team, Rondo led his team in scoring – a characteristic he is not known for.
In the series against Miami, Rondo recorded 44 points in the second game and became the only player in NBA history with 10+ assists in a playoff game by recording 10 assists and 8 rebounds.
However as brilliant as he was individually, he was unable to lead his Celtics team past the star studded Heat line up. So coming into next season, Rondo will be coming out as strong as ever only this time he would have a better
chance of leading his team as a point guard which will not only be beneficial for the Celtics but will also allow him to stay strong in the MVP race.
Are the recruits good enough?
There can be no doubt that the Boston roster is going through a lot of changes. However is the fresh group of players arriving well enough for their title ambitions. Will the arrival of Jason Terry be helpful for the team? Will
the Jet be fuelling for another Championship run with the Celtics?
Terry came over from the Dallas Mavericks during the summer and can be a great asset for the Celtics team. The former Sixth Man of the Year is well aware of his role on team and can provide the much needed spark coming off the
bench.
However coming off the bench to have brief stints is not the only thing, Terry is capable off. As Terry can also fulfil the role of a starter when called upon and with his ability to create his own shots can be of great value for
the team.
But Jet is not the only significant change taking place with this Boston roster. They have also acquired Courtney Lee to play back up to Paul Pierce – something that they were not able to do last season.
Nonetheless, their biggest ambitions would rest upon the arrival of two young post players in form of Jared Sullinger and Fab Melo. So are the Celtics good enough for next season? The answer would be yes and filling the void left
behind by Ray Allen may be difficult but with this current roster, they do have a strong chance.
