Question:

Do the Chinese eat toast?

I am just wondering because we bought a new toaster which doesn't make very good toast. My parents also bought two different ones and neither one makes good toast. We didn't buy the cheapest ones either. It either toasts well on one side but not on the other, or takes so long to make the toast that the bread gets all dried out. Since every toaster for sale here is now made in China, I'm just wondering if it's because the Chinese don't eat toast, so they don't know what good toast is supposed to be like.

  1. "Toasts" as we know and love are uncommon in China and not popular among the Chinese even in hotel outlets (buffet breakfast); but commonly eaten in overseas Chinese communities who have grown up with western habits (corn flakes, butter & jam, bacon & eggs, etc).

The Chinese love to eat and are usually adventurous when it comes to food (understatement); so it is a matter of time more and more Chinese in China will drink a toast to "toast". If I were a Chinese in China, I wouldn't crave for "toast" at all... a lot of other local Chinese food beats toasts anytime.

By the way, my Kenwood toaster is made in China - perfectly toasted everytime.

  2. wow you have alot of time on your hands but that is a very good question!! if i was chinese i would tell you...i mean maybe they dont...you never see toast on a chinese buffet...idk

  3. i guess cus hello kitty toasters work and hello kitty is chinese, i think

  4. yea we make toast -.-

  5. Of course they do! Every once and a while some one burns a loaf of bread.

  6. Not sure bout pure chinese from china, but chinese in malaysia, with the influence of the baba nyonya culture, eats toast with kaya and butter together with Kopi (coffee) or teh tarik (milk tea)

but more of the best toast are not made with bread toaster, instead they use those mini toaster, oh and they spread butter on the bread before toasting, this way, it will be toasted more even :D

  8. One person made probably the correct point. China makes a great deal of various goods sold in the world and they may not be commonly used in their domestic market. The Chinese companies simply manufacture based on designs provided by their Western clients, fitness for the intended purpose & adequacy of design is not their problem. So if you have a cranky & unreliable toaster or other home appliances, don't blame the Chinese as it's much more likely to be an overseas-provided design flaw rather than local manufacturing defect. And you can spend more on a pricier model and still don't get what you paid for.

  9. When I was working as a nanny to a rich chinese family in HongKong, they eat steamed sliced bread like the American bread. I don't see any toaster ,,they eat rice soup,or watery oatmeal with  beaten egg drops and steam bread I mention above for breakfast.

  10. That's just racist

  11. do they even eat bread? i don't know. my toaster sucks too. i wonder if that was made in china.

  12. yeah they put prawns and sesame seed all over it ..

  13. sure they eat toast, pizza and cheese too!

  14. ... I'm amazed by your logic use in the theory above. You're a big thinker!

I'm Chinese and I like toast as breakfast. But that's not traditional Chinese dish obviously. Is it true that every toaster for sale is made in China? That's funny. Next time you can buy one at IKEA. Their goods are made in Sweden and the Swedish eat toast  aren't they?...

  15. that is such a dumb question!

i can't believe you actually asked that.

    wowww.....

  16. May I ask the following?

    1) How much time you put your bread in the toaster?  Do you know your how much heat your toaster can generate?

    2) How good the toast you want it to be, would depend on how you toast it with your toaster, i.e., it depends on how you adjust the timer of the toaster, is that right?

    3) Have you read the operation manual of your toaster?

I use toaster oven which I can view my toast turning brown and crispy and I can always add butter or honey on my hot toast while it is still in the toaster.

I'm a Chinese from Hong Kong and I have been eating different kinds of toasts since I was a kid.

  17. LOL--could be that they don't test it out!

  18. Listen, most of the products  made in China were designed by the US companies that market them.  The products don't work well probably because their main offices in the U.S have decided on going cheap on quality and materials. A question like this shows the self-centered/ western superior mentality that's contributed the decline in the quality of products and work-ethics.

And for those who said things as if they were superior because they eat toast, my condolence to you...

China has many problems in their society just like we have many in ours.  You may want to laugh or make fun about how they eat pets and marinate eggs, but don't forget that the animal planet chanel show daily how many Americans(many affluent ones) abuse their pets till the animals die a horrific death.

Please, people, just because you eat toast and jam and drink milk and orange juice for breakfast doesn't make ANY of you a better human being than the Chinese worker who made that crappy toaster that you bought.

  19. BEEP!! .... I'm sorry.  You have reached a number that is no longer in service.  If you would like to try your call again, please hang-up and redial.  Once again, we are sorry for the inconvienance.  (message replays)

  20. WELL I think you need to make toast in the oven! LOL!!

  21. chinese are indifferent to toast. they do not eat it every day, but it is not forein to them. rice is where its at though

  22. don't buy things from china!!!!!

chineese not eating toast is  not true becouse 60% of food that exist on earth come from china

  23. i dont know but that really is a good questions...i have noticed my toaster sucks to...thanks for the laugh sorry i could not be more help

  24. Oh yes ! We used toaster more than half century ago back in Shanghai and  it took much less time to toast breads than today's toasters. It has nothing to do with Made-in-China because they are designed by non Chinese companies.  I agree with what you said today's toasters are much  slower and less efficient than those older models due to safety reason because toaster is one of the main cause of house fire. To make perfect toast, I prefer to use small counter top toast oven and it works very well for me. Just give it a try.

  25. Everyone eats toast.

  26. good question, but idk

  27. my husbands asian and every time i eat toast he says why would you want to eat a crunchy piece of bread? He hates bread... he said they never grew up eating bread... They eat rice as a filler... so no bread for them..
