  2. It depends on the DVD player.  You need to check if your DVD player supports different region DVDs.  Some do, some don't.

  3. There are two issues. The first is the video encoding - anything from the uk will be in PAL, not NTSC, which is the system here in th US. You need to make sure your player either plays PAL (in which cse your TV needs to be able to accept a PAL signal) or convert PAL to NTSC.

    Commercial DVDs from the UK are region 2, and most players will only play DVDs coded for their own region. The US is region 1. So you'll also need a player that either let's you set the region manually, or is called "region free."

    If both these criteria are met you can watch UK DVDs at home. I bought an appropriate player for about 100 bucks here in the US, although I would recommend buying one from a known manufacturer (like Philips or Sony) rather than from a company you've never heard of.
