I think it makes sense to call it French Channel as France borders it ;)

  1. So what about the indian ocean then ??? I wonder how many countries have borders along that part of the world??

  2. no it's La Manche for us!

  3. However, the English Channel does not separate France from mainland Europe.

  4. They call it La Manche, which means sleeve - because it's in the shape of a sleeve. Far more inventive than "channel"!

  5. Nope ! we just call it la Manche :)

  6. We call it La Manche ! (same word than sleeve, I guess it is because of its shape !)

@HelenEs : sorry for repeating ! I did not see your answer before typing mine !

  7. Hiya,

No French call the English Channel "La Manche".

    Cheerio.

  8. Why should we bother, we call it La Manche and leave it at that. We have so many seas we just give it a French name and leave someone I will not name (glance to white cliffs visible over the water) to their show of defiance. After all we know it's ours ;-DDD
