Do the Japanese speak at the dinner table? ?

I know they say "Itadekimasu" and "Goochisosama deshita" but do they talk to each other or are they silent while they eat? I want to go to Japan soon, so I need to know a lot of the etiquette. Thanks!

  1. Yes, in fact there is often lots of talking at the dinner table. Feel free to laugh and talk and enjoy the meal as well as the company.

    i am asian, and i always talk at the dinner table

    in a way i sort of find that racist against japanese--just because they are quiet that they don't talk?? Huh.

    its actually better to talk when you eat at the dinner table just so that everyone can enjoy eating and talking/listening to each other ^^

    oh my ... i was the only one quiet and they could talk VERY freely ..


  6. Yes. I'm always talking loud voice and sometimes scolded by everybody.

    I live in Tokyo 3 months, Hong kong 3 months, India 3 months, Canada 3 months repeatedly.

    Tokyo is required the best manner all of them.
