just wondering if fighter pilots in one of the worlds greatest airforces have an element of hollywood?

While all aviators use radio callsigns to identify themselves, to my knowledge, the practice of giving military pilots a 'personal' callsign, akin to a nickname, is only practiced among U.S. aviators.

Yes, if u look at some fighter jet pilots, they hav their name and nickname engraved on the side

no they are issued a callsign related to the mission and sortie. thus blue 5, sandy 4, and others.

nicknames would be confusing in the combat transmissions.
