Question:

Do the Roos have the power to choose?

The Kangaroos have asserted their right to be North Melbourne in the press. Given that they continue to be a club with a small number of members, and their "territory" is not an area that warrants a lot of AFL development, it's likely that the AFL will have to prop them up if they stay in Victoria.

So what do you supporters of all clubs think?

And if the Roos don't move, which of the Victorian clubs must, to keep the comp viable? And to where? I think we can support 8 clubs at most in Victoria, your views invited.

  1. the afl were bluffing when they were threatening to move the roos to the gold coast. they dont even have a ground, let alone a supporter base.

north just got two major sponsors (vodafone and mazda) to sign for five years and so this will bring in much extra revenue. the only way north will stay in melbourne in the long term is if they become self sufficient, which is difficult to see at this point in time. i think there is still hope.

as for how many teams should be in melbourne, i think there are too many but of course no one wants their team moved. it is a difficult problem to solve and the only way is for the afl to expand the league (to different places, not more teams) is by thinking up much more viable places and much more attractive packages. they also must keep in mind that no club will be really eager to move everything straight away and will take time.

remember when the kangaroos put to the afl a dual gold coast-melbourne package (1/2 home games in gold coast and 1/2 in melbourne) they refused. so how committed are they to harvesting a team on the gold coast?

i am a paid up member of the roos and support their decision to remain in melbourne

  2. about 8 sound right to me.

but if the afl can prop up Brisbane and Sydney, they can do the same for north then.

if clubs want to remain, supporters have to become actual members of their supported clubs.

I'm not sure who 'should' move but kanga's, demons, bulldogs, saints and hawks are the front runners, the others have no reason to move, most are making profits, even the bottom team Richmond made 1.2 million profit, if they perform well on field they will have no problem doubling that profit, those i mentioned have played finals of late and still struggle.

there is no quick fix but if your team is one of them five i mentioned above, don't take offense, it's just the way i see it, i would say to get every person you know who supports your team to become members before they are shipped out or even worse become extinct, it wont be

    collingwood

    Richmond

    Carlton

    essendon

    geelong

that's for sure, when these sides are bottom sides they still have members.it cannot be just 1 year, it has to be an on going viability.
