Do the Va pay back pay for Dependent Educational Assistance?

I was award the benefit, but have no clue about the benefits and would like to know because the date that they started my benefits seems like a long time of unused benefits...

You'd be eligible for it from when they awarded it. You wouldn't get back pay. Here's a fact sheet about it. You can contact your veterans service officer in your county or at your college. They'd have more answers for you.
