Yes, check youtube. There is a very funny story on there about the actor getting thrown in the clink because everyone in the town he stopped at had watched.

Very probably, as it's the only crimes the police are actually likely to clear up, i.e. seen on TV by millions of people. Far easier than actually trying solve real crimes that blight the lives of real people.

OMG this is a great question I have always wondered about.  There's this show I watch (can't rememeber the channel) but they show the actor as the criminal in a mug shot and all.  I don't think I would want that acting gig. You know how stupid people can be even if they tell you that the criminal is being played by an actor I'm sure there would be plenty of people calling the cops on the poor guy
