I just applied for the Houston Police Officer Postion and they are now conducting my background check. I wouls like to know do they check all Texas counties or do they just check the one that you have ever lived or worked in? If by chance that you may have by accident left one out, will that get you kicked out of the process. Do they allow you to explain? I am really not sure if I got any other then what I remember, but I can almost remember! I am lost!

  1. Yes, all the states

  2. A background done correctly, yes, will check the entire US data base. Not only for driving but also for criminal arrests. I would suggest that if you "forgot" to tell the person doing the background anything, call them and tell them. It is better than this person thinking you are lying or trying to hide something.

    Good luck

  3. They check the whole USA.

  4. Most law enforcement agencies check national databases for criminal and traffic records.  Just contigent upon the agency.  The best indicator of if they will or not is how desperate they are for officers.  i.e. the NYPD will take anyone with a pulse seemingly so the liklihood of them doing a major, in depth check is slim.  Conversely, Suffolk County NY PD is highly competitive so they're looking for reasons to turn people away.  So is Houston desperate for cops or are they in no hurry to hire?
