Question:

Do the big pub chains microwave their meals?

I'm talking Brewers Fayre, Vintage Inns, Hungry Horse type food pub chains. I have eaten in most of them and some meals seem to be microwaved. Obviously steaks and things off the grill can't be microwaved but food like pasta, curry or chilli con carne can be. Is it common practice to microwave meals, are the meals even made on the premises or bought in frozen?

  1. My Other half is a proper chef but when he has had to he has worked in some of these places, especially brewers fayre and he said that there he doesn't have to cook anything, even the burgers are microwaved!!

he now works in a little local pub and gets to make all his food fresh and is a lot happier as he is now a proper chef again and not a 'microwave technician!!'

  2. yes for veg and other foods

  3. nearly all their meals are brought in frozen and the microwaved - with the large menus they offer they cannot make money if they employ chefs to cook - much cheaper to mass produce in factories and then store in freezers.

Veg and chips are often frozen and  microwaved too

  4. Dont bet on it....A steak can be heated up like any food can in a microwave...Go into any resturant or pub kitchen and you will see a Microvave Grill oven. Most steaks are cooked in the Microvave then flashed under a grill. There are a lot of buisnesses buying in pre packed half cooked food.

  5. not if there any good  most pubs if not all the pubs  i know  employ  top cooks  and will  not have a  microwave  on the  prem

  6. i think they do, j.d wetherspoons food tastes microwaved.

  7. If they say made on premises then they should be.They will probably still use microwaves.Local Pubs serve the best meals.

  8. Microwave meals & boil in the bag meals are commonly used in pubs and restaurants.

  9. I think going on the ones you mention yes they do. I avoid places like this because i don't care much for the manufactured type food that's on offer. Had numerous poor meals and decided that for the sake of my stomach to give them a miss.

  10. A lot of places do.  I worked in the kitchen at Wetherspoons and it was all practically microwaved.  They also cook their food and then leave it in this big oven thing that keeps it hot all day and they just take out a burger or whatever when they need it, but sometimes the burgers are in there for hours so are dry as h**l! I would say about 80% of the food in these sort of bits is microwaved.
