Question:

Do the bricks in storage heaters ever become less efficient with time?

I had 3 new storage heaters last year and the bricks from my old ones were used for 2 and new bricks in the 3rd. The heater with new bricks is more efficient than the other 2, it gets hotter and keeps it's heat longer. Could this be down to the old bricks?

  1. I do not think that the heat efficiency of you new storage heaters is down to the bricks. All of the bricks are the same composition, "Fire Clay" .It is more than likely that the  improved framework contains the heat longer, as opposed to the old heaters where the heat escaped out of every o*****e as well as the grill on top. There are probably other aspects that have been up-dated, such as the "Element" may have been redesigned to give a more even heat, and of course, the type of insulation too, may have been changed to conserve more heat, and release it much slower. Even if none of this happened, a new heater will always work more efficiently than the old.

  2. Mr. Mole is right !  its not because of the bricks!   The heat storage quality of the bricks does not disintegrate over time.
