  1. I have had two fridges with opposite controls.

On one, small was cold, on the other high was cold.  I probably depends on the manufacturer and date of manufacture.

    Good Luck

  2. Fridge controls are strange, in that you turn up the dial you get more, unlike everything else you'll encounter in life which will work exactly the same.

    I hope that helps.

By the way, this shouldn't affect the weather, even if you inadvertently leave the door open.

  3. No. Tis the other way round. Big numbers is chilliest, old bean.  You might have to turn it up a bit if you've got a load of grub in your fridge, or down a bit if you aint.

  4. Not usually. Mine doesn't.

  5. All of the ones that I have had or ever seen or worked on, the lower the number means a warmer, temperature(less refrigeration).

This does not mean that some manufacturer may have done it the other way however and would not really surprise me.

If you are unsure, you can verify it for yourself by looking at the dial.

If there is an off position, the number closest to that position will be the warmest setting.

0 on both of my current fridges is off.

One has 7as the coldest setting the other has 9.

Another way you could verify which direction is off would be to turn the dial while the compressor is operating,(you should be able to hear it since they all make some noise while operating) and when you turn the dial in one direction toward a colder setting the compressor will stay on, if you turn it toward the off or warmer setting the compressor will stop.

If you do this, keep it switched off for a couple of minutes before switching it back on to allow the pressures to equalize, otherwise the compressor will not be able to start up and even though the compressor has thermal protection to minimize the chance of internal self destruction, it still causes undue stress and could lead to premature failure.

Most of the compressor failures I have found I believe could be attributed to times when there were many short power interuptions on a particular day.

    Hope this helped a bit.

If you find yours to be an 'odd one', I would appreciate knowing the make and model for future reference!

Your welcome to blast me an e-mail also if you need any further information.

  6. Just turn the dial until you hear the fridge kick in and you know your turning it cooler.  Mine is hard to see so that is how I do it.

  7. Nope. The higher the number the colder the fridge will be.

  8. No. The lower the setting the higher your temperature in your fridge. I usually have it around 3.

  9. No. Other way round. Higher the number = colder the fridge.

  10. yes coldest to the warmest  I know the answer sounds simple.

I speak from experience (frozen lettuce, milk and last but my favorite, have you ever tried to eat a Rock hard pickle.)
