  1. I wouldn't say they control horse racing, but I suspect that there is always going to be an element of skulduggery where big money is concerned.

In my opinion I feel they should do away with betting on horses to lose a race it leaves it wide open to corruption and the jockey on a possible favourite could be put under pressure to 'throw' a race.

Also stop trainers entering horses in one race just to get them fit for a completely different race.

The other thing is that when a trainer has 2/3 horses running in the same race, he jolly well knows which horse is the best, but when interviewed will feign ignorance.  Let the betting be as in France where if a trainer runs 3 horses whatever the race they are coupled together, so if you back one you have backed them all and the starting price adjusted accordingly.

This will do away with the second string romping in at 33/1 beating the stables odds on favourite., and I've seen it a lot at Newmarket with one particular owners horses.

  2. Crime is everywhere. Take a good hard look at the news and you will see reports of politicians accepting bribes in exchange for political favors, misguided judges accused of ethics violations, police involved in drug trafficking, ministers and senior church officials stealing from the church, school officials and teachers committing crimes against children, corporate schemes to defraud investors and all sorts of secret collusion between corporations in price-fixing conspiracies to defraud consumers in violation of antitrust laws, and the list of crimes goes on and on at all levels of society from common street thugs to the highest level of business and government. Do I expect that the horse racing is different? Not at all. But if you think that it is what it was in the days, such as in the 1960s, when organized crime was profiteering from a strangle hold on almost every form of gambling enterprise, then you are DEAD WRONG bubba!

  3. I suspect that some kind of Insurance Scam is behind all these dead Thoroughbred race horses of the past few years.

It has ruined horse racing - at least for me.

My hat is off to Kent Desormeaux, for being humane and not running Big Brown into the ground!

I really hope that someone, somewhere within the powers that be, will put an end to what seems to be a very lucrative way to make tip top dollar on horse flesh.

You won't be seeing me at the race track till they stop this cruel nonsense!

Better to watch NASCAR.  At least those guys put their lives on the line of their own free will.  And nobody kills the drivers to collect quadruple indemnity insurance payouts - YET.
