  1. "The dead" does not refer to dead people, but the state of death, hence the wording: "He is risen from the dead."

    Baptizing for the dead is not baptism by proxy, it is baptism for the hope of an afterlife; thus we do not baptize for this world, but it has meaning and value in the next.

    If a criminal converts in prison, then he probably should be baptized... if that is what you were asking.
