Well as a Devils fan you would think my answer would be YES but I'm not going to say that.....

Last year the devils started off horrible...like 2-7-1 or something like that....then they sky rocketed to the top of the east and stayed there.  Late March hit them hard and they lostr 5 in a row to loose the east by a point or two....so in betweeen those two stretches there was NO team in the NHL better then them.....

granted regular season success means nothing and I agree with that.  Marty was overplayed as usual and we faltered in the playoffs.....that doesnt get around the fact that we were a cup contender the entire year!  We need to play Marty less and all of a sudden we become a dangerous team in the playoffs.....

I am glad to see people are saying we got better this offseason because we definitely did even if we went "retro" (i like that lol).  Rumor is we are in the sweepstakes for Bouwmeester (sp?) and that would make us such a better team....we are missing a puck moving defensmen and maybe another goal scorer.  I can assure you that if Lou gets these two players then we will be a complete team and combined with playing Marty less we will be a serious contender....

Its funny because every year all the Devils critics run and hide during their repeated 100 point seasons and then come out when they dont win the cup (funny because the critic's teams never win the cup either).  Fact is no one likes playing us, no one wants to play us and no one will be happy to play us....we added size, strength and scoring this off season   a few more moves and we will be a true cup contender....

STILL I do NOT think we will win the cup but getting as far as the ECF or the SCF is not out of the question....if we get Boumeester (sp? Still doesnt look right) and a goal scorer I will predict the SCF but I think Detroit will beat anyone in the East this year if they get through San Jose (who still might beat everyone in the east, jsut maybe not as easily as detroit).  I expect the Devils to finish 1-4 in the east (2nd or 3rd overall in points maybe) and get through the semi finals ATLEAST....

No, not really. The Devils aren't a playoff team without Brodeur. No way they're going past the first round, if they make the playoffs.

Detroit will win again. They have only gotten better, it's not quite fair to the rest of the NHL.

Unless they run into the Hawks in the playoffs, then the Habs or Pens will take it.

The DEVS went retro and probably got better than last years team, but UNLESS Brodeur carries them, I dont see them getting out of the East this year. They are closer, but will fall just short.

I think every team has an equal opportunity except for Toronto, New York Islanders, Oilers and Vancouver.  Those teams are going to have a rough year.  Devils don't have that bad of a team.  What they are lacking is the replacements for Rafalski, Niedermayer and Stevens on the back end.  If they make a move and pick up someone at the deadline, anything can happen.  Pens picked up Hossa and made it to the finals.  Red Wings picked up Brad Stuart and won the Stanley Cup.

Anything is possible when you have the best goaltender in the NHL.

In theory, everyone has a chance of winning the Cup.  Again, in theory.

In reality, the Devils do have some shot but I don't think they'll get far in the playoffs.  So far, Detroit seems to be the odds on favorite for the Cup with San Jose not too far behind.
