It may sound like a silly, but I was wondering if he paralyzes them by biting their back or something. I feel really bad when I watch him eat them, so it would be nice to know that they're not feeling anything.

  1. Yes a fish will feel it when a turtle bites or eats :o no they dont get paralyzed when they get bitten from the back but they get injuried

  2. pretty sure they do. they feel pain when hooked by a fishermen so it should be the same with being eaten. but thats part of the circle of life. i know how you feel i also have a turtle. if you feel really bad about it and want to change his diet, you could get turtle sticks for him to eat that you can find almost anywhere, like petsmart (the kind i have are called reptomin) my turtle eats these like shes starving! she also enjoys freeze dried baby shrimp as a treat every other day. i hope this helps!

  3. Its been proven fish don't have the higher brain capacity to feel "pain" in a way higher developed species can, so no they don't.  The reason they swim away from turtles and larger predatory fish is more of a survival instinct, rather than avoiding a "painful" situation.

  4. yupe ;)

  5. Of course they feel it every creatur on earth have feelings.

  6. .....it a lot like smashing your thum really, really good with a hammer....you barely feel it, right?

...but the anticipation leading up to it is mind-numbing

....a fish in a corner, 'trapped' in the run-up to it's demise, as a turtle chomps into it, may cause the fish to wiggle, trembling nervously, as it assesses the situation seeking some possible subterfuge...escape!!!!

.....but the turtle is quick! and precise! striking with a 'surgeons skill', rendering it's prey.....

  7. of course they feel the pain...they are scared before he eats them...I have seen videos where oscars, turtles etc eat goldfish...god I feel so bad..they run for their life...some even change color cos they are so horrified...yeah they feel pain..well but tht is the food chain...the turtle is above the fish so he is bound to eat it..the same way humans eat meat...so i think its ok...if the turtle needs tht kind of food..feed him...frankly I would never have a fish that eats another fish..its just painful to watch all tht...

I think with the first bite.its usually an instant death...if not then yeah could be paralyzed..

  8. I think so??? Would you feel it if a gator came and bit you in half??? I think so!!! But it is a natural process of small gets eaten big gets bigger.

  9. Nah...fish don't have feelings.

  10. They probably feel the first bite, but once the back or neck is broken, with usually happend with the first bite, the fish can't feel anything. So very little pain is felt.

  11. I do believe that they do feel pain but not in the way that we do. I think that in cases of being eaten that they go into shock and therefor do not feel much pain, just as people go into shock when they get hurt bad.

  12. If the turtle bites them,, waits a sec,, and then eats them,, they may feel it.  have u tried getting separate aquariums for them?
