  1. There seem to be few references to the flower of the flytrap, other than that it is normally advised to prevent flowering as it weakens the plant.

    Since the traps use sweet nectar to attract insects, it would be reasonable to expect the flowers to be sweet, rather than foul.


  2. This is from my own observations, that carnivorous plants do not smell bad in the glass houses, even when insects are trapped inside the pitchers.

  3. This mechanism is typically used by many flowers to attract insects towards them. The foul smell (usually like that of rotten meat) mimics the smell of decomposing food which is one of the favourites on the fly's menu. Once the fly approaches the flower, it is immediately surprised because instead on finding food, it becomes food for the plant.

    This mechanism is also carried out by non-carnivorous plants. The largest flower in the world, Rafflesia, used this mechanism to attract flies and to ensure that pollination occurs efficiently.
