I don't and won't entertain credit cards. If I haven't got the money, I can't buy it.

But do most people have them?

  1. almost every person in the US has a credit card

(sar.dee you won't be in debt if you pay the card off like you're supposed to.)

  2. Unfortunately, many people are absolutely against credit cards because they've created so many problems for so many people. But the truth is, at some point you're going to need a credit card to help build / improve your credit score. If you ever want to take out a loan (or lease) on a new car, apply for a mortgage to buy a new house, or, in some cases, even get accepted at a new job, you're going to need to prove yourself with a credit card.

Unless you plan on spending cash on everything for the rest of your life, you're going to need to learn how to use a credit card responsibly. Unfortunately, there's really no way around it - unless you have hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash to buy homes and cars - and you're never going to need a loan...

  3. My mum has always told me that if i can't afford something, then i'll have to save up for it.

there's always cheaper alternatives... so whats the use in getting in debt for the real thing?

  4. I'm with you 100%...credit cards can and will ruin a person. I did have them for years...got tired of high interest rates. They would give you a card for $1000..next thing ya know it's raised to $10,000. I will save and pay cash from now on. I would guess 75% of americians have credit cards and most don't know how to use them.

  5. Yes, the majority of people have credit cards and credit card debt is one of the main reasons for personal bankruptcy.  It allows people to live way beyond their means and it can ruin their lives.  I know, because I have worked in the bankruptcy business for over 20 years.  I have seen marriages fail because of the abuse of credit cards, the financial burden it creates and then the consequences of a bankruptcy, where you stand to lose so much and have to start over.

And that is why I, personally, do not use credit cards.  I put my money in a savings account regularly so I will have the money I need for any large purchases or have it in the case of emergencies.

And I agree with you - if I don't have the money, I don't buy it.  If I really want something, I will save the money to buy it when I can afford it.

  6. Yes, I read recently that about 50 million Americans do not have a credit card. That leaves roughly 250 million that do.

  7. Yup, two..... and the debts only increase by the month... :(

You're doing the right thing, trust me.

  8. i don't know but what i do know is i don't have one and never will have one!!!
