Question:

Do the marines accept GEDs?

One of the requirements to join the marines is a high school diploma. Because GEDs are often considered diploma equivalents I was wondering if the marines accept them, too.

  1. I hate to disagree with some of you , but right now,  THE CORPS IS NOT TAKING GED ALONE,  not waiver-able

must have 15 college credits with it, but saying that,

it does change from time to time,  each branch goes thru times where they will take the GED  and then times when they do not accept the GED, so it is something that has to be checked when your ready to enlist,  and then if they dont take the GED  right then, You have the option, take 15 hours of college,  and go, ( that is only one semester)  or you can go on,  and just wait for them to change their policy

    good luck ;)

  2. yes they do aslong as you have a high school education and proof of that such as a GED you fit that criteria

  3. Yes, the marines are also the only military sub branch that will take dropouts. That is not a bad thing though. I have known some dropouts that made some of the finest NCO's I have ever known.

  4. Yes we do.

  5. Most times, GEDs are more than adequate.

Not to bash the Marines but when I was recruiting, they even took non-grads, no GED, no nothing....no record either so there's a plus.

On the flip side, all services generally open windows that lax the standards to a point reachable by those not meeting educational requirements.  They just have to meet certain requirements by a certain point in their enlistments to stay in.  Those requirements would be their GED or 15 college credits, or both--depends on the strengths of each particular service.

  6. In the military a GED does not equal a high school diploma. The Marine's equivalent of a high school diploma is a GED + 15 college credits. Without the 15 college credits you (currently) cannot enlist. Though as stated above me... the military changes their policies quite frequently.

  7. yes, they do, but you will be expected to score a bit higher on the asvab test.

  8. Yes, my friend got into the Marines with a GED.

  9. yes they do...

  10. They do...and I would assume from serving beside them (Marines) that most of them have GEDs. HA I kid,  no but really Marines are dense and they smell funny.  Go Army!!!!
