  1. They're both seperate agency and seperate fare.

Only Pay-Per-Ride MetroCard is accepted on MTA, Bee-Line, X23/X24, Airtrain JFK, PATH train.

Unlimited MetroCard $81 30-Day is only accepted on NYC buses, subways, Bee-Line buses, Staten Island Railway, long island bus and roosevelt island tramway.

PATH operated by Port Authority of NY&NJ is Smartlink 30-Day Pass @ $54. Only use for PATH.

To receive blank card, you have to buy for $5 or apply online.

PATH train only accepted Smartlink Card, QuickCard and Pay-Per-Ride MetroCard only. No Unlimited MetroCard or NYCT Single Ride card.

  2. The NYC subway system is owned by the city of NY. The PATH trains are owned by the Port Authority. They are separate entities and will each charge you to ride their trains.

  3. The Unlimited MetroCards (7 day, 14 day and 30 day) will not work on PATH.  Only the Pay-per-ride MetroCards are valid on PATH.

There are no free transfers between PATH and the NYC Subway.

PATH has its own 30 day unlimited pass ($54) which can be loaded on the SmartLink Card.

(Note: The Smartlink Card does not work in the NYC Subway)
