Do the new 5 dollar bills really have a misprint on the date or is it just a rumor?

  1. No they're not misprints, they were printed in 2006 but wasn't put into circulation until 2008 to prevent them from being counterfeited.

    a lot of people think it's a misprint on the 2006 mark because it's 2008.


  2. Every time a new note shows up the rumor mill starts. People mistake what they do on coins is also what they do with paper money. Well they don't, unless Congress okays it the coins have to be dated the year struck, this is not true to currency. The date on currency is when that design was authorized not the year it was printed. Usually when there is a signature change they add a letter after the date such as 1995A. Paper currency does not circulate that long for dollar bills 18 months is the longest with most being destroyed a lot soon due to the note falling apart. Five dollar bills are close to the same. You will find $5 notes with the date 1988 then the next ones are dated 1993, there is no way they could print enough bills in 1988 to last until 1993. At least you checked before continuing a rumor. I thank you for that.

  3. I haven't heard anything about that.  I doubt it.  However, there might be a few that are misprinted.  Good luck with finding one.
