  1. many countries do pay the medal winners. It is different in each country.

The USOC has paid prize money to its winning Olympians since 1984, this year giving out $25,000 to gold medal winners, $15,000 to those who take home a silver and $10,000 for a bronze. Some of the richer U.S. sport federations give additional prize money to their winners as well.

Some countries also pay their athletes incentive money. Wami and Cheruiyot from Ethiopia were each presented with a $500,000 check for winning the first two-year cycle of the World Marathon Majors in 11/07.

  2. LOL--Olimpians???

  3. That varies from country to country, the money most of them get comes from sponsor endorsements, an other source is motivational speaking engagements.

  4. Some countries do that (or used to), like Russia. Others give them houses/cars.. like China, Romania.

The USA doesn't, but often the winners get given cars and stuff from their own hometown. Like a car dealership gave Shawn Johnson (gymnast) a car after she won World's. Shannon Miller got a car after each Olympics too.. But it's not the country that made that decision.

  5. umm i dont know, but i did hear that if someone won the rowing gold medal then they would win a lot of money but i think it might be different for each sport but i dont really know =[ sorry!
