Do the people under a democratically elected government bear responsibility for its overseas action/policies?

Because then the people can protest in one way or another against, for example, violent abusive policies overseas, and protest until the wrongs are righted. And if they fail to do so, even if they personally do reject those policies but still don't bother to get politically active, then they are still responsible for overseeing these actions just like the government does? And do you think they are still guilty even if the media has brainwashed them with the notion that everything to do with this-and-that country is good, because they haven't checked behind the media themselves via internet?

Just wanted to see people's views on this. This same question has come up on YA and majority agree that yes the people are responsible? Anyway thanks in advance :)

Example protest would be - tax strike, seeing taxes fund the government and their actions.

  1. THE SAME COULD BE SAID OF ANY GOVT. shouldnt those under communist, or monarchy revolt against their govt as well?

  2. Are you asking whether citizens are criminally or civilly liable if their government takes actions that you don't approve of?  Where is the court that would have jurisdiction in this matter?  Where is the law being broken?  People do not bear any criminal or civil responsibility for merely disagreeing with you.  It would make just as much sense for you to bear criminal or civil liability for disagreeing with the govenment.

  3. There are those who say Govs and Corporations do not result in freedom. The people think prisons are there for The Gov to control people. So any prisons at all can only be dissolved by The people as The Government will not.

People can say Elites are at fault but really The Culture Of Conquest is and it is time for people to do something about that. While they sneer at Cave Dwellers as being unadvanced or Tree Dwellers as being primitive consider where most of the barbarism took place in cities . So to add more examples living in carved trees hundreds of years old in vast forests is possible in North America if people plan in terms of hundreds of years and not the quick buck.

  4. voters have only one responsibility

  5. Yeah, the people do bear some responsibility but elected leaders can waffle once they get elected. George W Bush said he would end nation building when he was running in 2000 and he obviously waffled on that. But the people had the chance to remove him in 2004 and didn't so the people would bear some responsibility for what Bush has done in his 2nd term.
