just wondering do the royal family (or have they ever) apologised to the countries they tried to conquer and steal from the people who lived there? and for killing and stealing from lots and lots of innocent people just to gain power through the british empire? all the land they stole and countries they split apart, which led to more war and murder(india and pakistan, northern ireland etc)

  1. this english person knows quite a lot about history thanks, as do many of the people i know.

surely it would be ridiculous to ask a modern individual to apologise for acts committed centuries ago by people they have never met, simply because they share blood links?

i bet if you look deep enough you could find something to apologise for in your family history, how would you feel if you were asked to apologise for things that happened before you were born?

if we start getting into apologies, then everyone is going to be saying sorry to each other for ever, and we will get nowhere.

    peace

  2. Do you feel remorse or have you apologized for the atrocities your ancestors visited upon poor unsuspecting, innocents of the past?

Look hard enough and we are all related in some way to history we would rather overlook!

  3. The English people in general should be held responsible, not the royal family. Before you look at the royal family in connection to Ireland you should look at Oliver Cromwell's contribution.

We do not feel any remorse because the past is the past, we have learnt from our mistakes and it is our mistakes that have made the world what it is today.

We know all about our history and can honestly say that the people at the time didn't think they were doing wrong.

We need to look to the future not the past.

  4. Why do you limit yourself to a royal family. What about the Hottentots being massacred by the Zulus, the Australian aborigines by the English , the Americans invaded Mexican and French territory and go back a bit further the Spanish ones as well. have they apologized yet ?

    Every country did/is doing it

  5. I think they would sort of want the bloody parts of the past to remain unacknowledged.  Like, King Edward took the Scots sacred stone, but the english today still use it.

  6. The British Empire was built up primarily through trade rather than conquest. In comparison to most other Empires that have existed very little killing actually went on by the British. Also, during the time of the British Empire any military action would have been at the orders of the Government, the head of which is the Prime Minister, and not the monarch. So the Royal Family should have nothing for which to apologise. Furthermore in respect of India during the majority of the time the British were there it was governed by The East India Company a private trading company which had its own army and Royal Family's ancestors were not responsible for its actions. In fact it could be argued that India as it exists today could not have existed without the direct influence of the British. Also Britain still has close and friendly links with the majority of its former colonies through The Commonwealth. Which is not something that can be said of any other recent Empire I can think of. Before you ask such a question try to discover and understand how Britain is actually governed and the role the Royal Family actually plays..
