  1. Yes, blame the leaders, for we cannot think for ourselves, we blindly follow anyone who sets themselves up as an authority.

They reflect the fact that humans are imperfect.

  2. Maybe the poor quality of our leaders reflects our societal problems:

A populace largely ignorant of world events, easily swayed by PR and spin, having short attention spans, being overly obsessed with private gains at the expense of meaningful public life, etc.

  3. I doubt our leaders have the societal problems we have today. Many of our problems deal with the way we uphold the law. Our law enforcement authorities have their hands tied and are required to do so much with so little. The United States is frowned upon for having the highest number of inmates compared to other places. Why do we have so many? We hardly use the death penalty.

  4. d**n skippy!  YES

  5. GEORGE BUSH IS CONTAMINATING OUR MINDS

  6. in democracies its the interaction between:

    - people and their immediate communities

    - political leaders,

    - the economic owners and controllers who must maintain the consumer economy and the consumer culture

    - the media largely  propelled by its need for the advertising dollar
