Do the tv license board employ people that look like thugs on purpose

My TV license was due a few months ago and I had,nt paid it. I was,nt trying to avoid payment just had,nt done it for reasons that would probably bore you so I wont get into it. Anyway I was woken by a loud rap at the door and answered it. I was still in my jammies. There was a man standing with a form saying he was from TV license and would have to fill in a form, I said ok. then this other man got out the car and stood at my front gate with his back to me his arms folded and scanning the street. (I live in a really nice place with no trouble or troublesome neighbours) So I dont know why he had to act that way.

  1. Bloody cheek they demand money for pure televisual bile..

  2. They act like that because they are numptys. Just say to them you don't have a TV.

  3. Let's hope that this results in your not being prosecuted, which is a miserable business. Perhaps these people looked menacing because you'd just got out of bed and they had the psychological advantage of being fully clothed. The TV licensing people I have come across in life have been rather soft individuals with their own problems to deal with. I remember one who was an alcoholic and known to roll into court drunk. Just keep paying your licence and they'll keep out of your life.

  4. Yes they do it for effect, it acts as a deterrent in most cases.

It is effective and I suppose you and I would employ the same to collect payments and arrears for our own company. I do understand why they do it although I do begrudge having to pay it in the first place.

  5. pay your licence and you wont see any of these men.If you live in scotland i appologise, this is a small fee people pay each year for watcing their televisions, there are also colour ones available now.

  6. Say what??? Did I wake up in a weird, dystopian world? What on earth is a TV license?

Edited to add: Thanks to Matt for clarifying that this is a UK question. Who knew??? *lol*

  7. And the moral of the story is NEVER answer the door to anyone in a  suit

Suits are all there to get something from you, no exceptions

Dont let them get it that easy
