Do these global warming nuts understand the disastrous consequences?

What if we did as they say and create thousands of new high tech jobs, have pure air to breathe, clear water to drink, save our wilderness areas and endangered wildlife, wean ourselves from the middle east and become energy independent, reduce emphysema, asthma, and lung cancer....and then find out that there was a 5% chance that global warming wasn't really going to happen?

  1. Your question proves to me that you have not even read a single paper on it.And where did you get the 5% figure. Outta your butt?

  2. We all need to be stewards of the environment, but lets get real & deal with starvation in Africa, before we turn out the lights thinking we're going to reverse a natural process.

The fear mongering associated with Global Warming is the worst kind of politics.

  3. Point taken.  One of the things people miss in their zeal to debunk global warming is that a cleaner environment is its own reward, and something we should do regardless of whether there is a crisis or not.s

To many people are more concerned with saving a few dollars than ensuring that their decendants aren't mutants.

  4. They've been brainwashed by that liberal nutcase, Al Gore.

  5. yeah i like your thoughts i want to breath clean air, drink clean water and save our wilderness but if we do this in the past maybe you will not be posting this question!

  6. I think it's a waste of time and a huge waste of money to continue trying to control people into fighting a ghost that doesn't exist.  The only people who want to keep going are Gore and his band of lefty-minded, rebellious university kids.

  7. So what if there's only a 5% chance. There's a 100% chance we'd all be better off if we did all the things you listed.

  8. Politicians care about nothing but themselves and getting elected.

  9. You have hit on the point of the global warming hysteria.  Everything you mentioned is a good thing and should be done.  Scientists know this.  That is why the over contrive global warming and accept the alarmist polititions in.  To them the end justifies the means.

  10. bad luck

  11. Yeah, that would be tragic.  And what would people who are against these changes do if we didn't try to prevent destruction of our biodiversity, clean our air and water, and promote sustainable development and then we found out too late that we could have saved ourselves and future generations from disastrous consequences by not being so gluttonous and arrogant?  Well, probably they wouldn't do anything because we'd already all be dead.  Hmm.  I'm having a really hard time deciding which scenario has more "disastrous" consequences.  Maybe the one where everyone dies?  I could be wrong.  Clean air does sound pretty horrible, too.  Gosh, I just don't know.  Should we take a vote?

  12. You're probably discovering right about now, if not about 5 minutes after your posted your question, that ironic humor doesn't really work in this forum.

  13. they only care of themselfs not animals, plants, the world. Just being elected is there point of life thats what they think

  14. I don't know. Would they feel horrible to find out that they saved the forests, cleaned up the water, and made us energy independent for no reason? I am guessing all those things would be worth it even if it didn't stop the unbelievable weather conditions, that is just a plus.

  15. -Consequences- loss of liberty and socialist big government controlling all aspects of our lives from conception to death.

Sorry, but that will not solve a thing.

If we do as they say we will starve to death in utter poverty.

  16. Even if we find out global warming was really never going to happen it would be good to have thousands of new high tech jobs, pur air to breathe, clean water to drink and all the wilderness and animals safe.  It would be good for us to be energy independent.  Reduction in emphysema, asthma and lung cancer would all be good things, too.   So we would be better off, even if it turns out global warming was never a true threat.

  17. People are funny.

  18. Forests, clean air, clean water....etc. are good things.....I have no issue with those pursuits.  However, the 'man-did-it' global warming cause is way over the top!

The first thing that needs to happen is to actually PROVE that man is causing catastrophic global warming...... this has yet to be done.

Secondly, we have to resist reacting in a knee-jerk fashion to a theory that is not even close to being proven...... for example, Ethanol.  Ethanol use benefits only those involved in its production.....farmers....manufacturing plants.  Ethanol has now been shown to be even more polluting than regular gasoline once all of the fossil fuel used in the process is added into the equation.

If we want to become energy independent, then open up oil production and allow more refineries to be built.

  19. Listen, I like the way you twisted this question - to Pro argument.

But, after you do all that.. there could be another 2-3 major volcanic eruptions added to the usual wildfires around the globe -- and maybe you'd even see that the Global Warming is happening, quite naturally... it's POLLUTION that you should combat, and all your thoughts are good ones. Except that Al Gore is a huckster for a movie, that's a For Profit movie that used his Brand to sell it.. as fact... and failed to mention in it, that he was in the White House for 8 years, didn't sign the Keeee-Yoooo-toooow accords for 4 calendar years, he and Bubba gave you NAFTA, gave America the MEGA ton/9-mpg SUVs like the Expedition, Yukon, Suburban, etc. that didn't require a truck license (although might have qualified for its weight)... did AWAY with the Fed. Highway MPG laws (that you probably don't even know about, since you were a kid went cars were REQUIRED to better their MPG or they couldn't be sold in the USA). That was your Al Gore and crew -- not the Bush gofballs. The Dem goofballs.

    Someday you'll realize 2 things...

    1. Benezene is Issue #1 as its a real threat and a verified carcinigen, and is ignored by Dems, too. Plastics are made from petrol, and China's making 95% of America's toys from plastics, at that. In fact, mostly everything you can buy at Lowes, Walmart, Toys R Us, Home Depot is made from pertrol and by China -- and there's nothing anyone running for USA President is saying about any of that, right?

    2. Dinosaurs walked this Earth for 200 million years, and many other animals for 100s of millions before that.. and it was quite warmer, and the atmosphere more thin.  It was about 100-120 degrees every day, all across what's now America -- and North America was CONNECTED to Europe!!! (hello?)  This Earth does what it wants to do, and it is a VERY violent place. We are on its table-cloth. We get shifted around, and cleaned off.. no matter what BS your relay, or what the UN spouts, from their 5-star hotels.. telling you what you want to hear.

  20. Well at least we'd be doing some good anyway.

You don't anways need a reason to improve :)

But yeah, we would all be pretty pissed....

  21. All the actions you list are a good thing anyway--regardless of whether global warming is man made or not. Would you not prefer to live in a world with clean water and air, energy independence, etc?

  22. I know, what a bunch of zealotous wackos ha?

  23. Ok, what would be the downside?  How can people believe that SIX BILLION+ humans on the planet don't effect the enviroment?

  24. ROFL

    Unfortunately, 5% is optimistic.

And I am not sure we will be able to turn it at this late date without putting ourselves in a nuclear winter to prevent the release of greenhouse gases from melting permafrost.

  25. The things you listed would be great.  But not driving my car and not turning up the heat is not going to affect the weather one way or the other.

  26. Overpopulation, Starvation, Disease. All the stuff that's going to happen anyhow because of seat-belts and helmets. lol Sounds bad doesn't it.

  27. we can only gain by being aware of the environment and responsible with it as well as ,not wasting our Bio resources and stopping pollution

    irrespective of Global warming

    http://dsc.discovery.com/convergence/glo...

    check this interactive globe

Global warming is but a component, in a group of destructive forces at work such as ;deforestation, desertification, soil and water contamination ,irresponsible or wasteful utilization of bio resources , air pollution,Non sustainable Agriculture, over pumping carbon aquifers

all concepts which are definitely not part of the Natural Processes of the Natural world

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

    .

    WHICH WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR,

The most prolific growth on this planet is part of the day in the mist and most of the time under clouds ,and the least growth is always directly in the sun .

To exchange the one for the other means changing local climates

We are exchanging Nature with Tar , concrete and open spaced mono cultures.

In 300 years half of the planets forests have gone ,and in the last 50 years half of the wet lands ,and rain forests

These Areas absorb heat during the day and release heat at night ,

Cause cloud formation(shade).humidifying the air on the surface as well as releasing excess water at the roots that keep rivers flowing ,which in turn brings more water into the Environment .

As well as contributing to absorbing carbon emissions as do the leaves of the trees together with the oceans .

All in all many factors which directly affect the local Environment .

The loss of the above resulting in rivers drying up ,less rain ,desertification, loss of habitat for many species and so on.

dryer and hotter surface environments which can manifest in different weather patterns such as tornadoes or bush fires

I may be stupid or Naive but somehow i believe that lots of these local environmental changes, can add up to affect global weather, If there are enough of them (and there are)

And then on top of that comes the story of the effects of pollutants released into Nature and especially the Air ,by MAN http://earthissues.multiply.com/photos/a...

A cocktail of events and a lot of the ingredients have MAN written all over them

So it is safe to assume that we should look at ourselves ,just a teeny bit ,for possible improvements ,and rectifying Eco errors that are with in our powers.

    What is a safer bet

to be or not to be

  28. I DOUBT IT,  ITS HAPPENING NOW AND A SURVEY FROM 31,000 SCIENTIST SAY THAT THEY ALL CONCUR  THAT GLOBAL WARMING WAS'NT CAUSED BY MAN AND ITS NOT NATURAL

  29. I think we should care about reducing the world's population. More men should get vasectomies. None of these problems would be an issue if there were less of us. But we're exploitative creatures aren't we? Global warming is an undeniable fact.

  30. It sounds like you're saying, why bother doing all this if there's only a 5% chance global warming will even happen.  How many catastrophic disasters have occurred, when there's always just (theoretically) a very small chance of them ever happening?  There's always a chance year-to-year, season-to-season of something terrible happening, and I guess if you're willing to play the odds then we'll just keep on getting what we're getting.  If we're in a position to even just potentially save the earth for future generations, I think we have an obligation to do it.
