Do these stone spear points have a name?

Over the years I've discovered a number of spear points on my property & they are neither Clovis nor Mesa. They are perhaps 2 1/2" to 3" long, 1 1/2+ inches wide. They have a sholder (shaped like a barb) then taper down to what appears to be a shaft for attatching to a spear shaft. The workmanship is fine like a clovis point, but they lack the flute & are wider than either a clovis or mesa point.

I live in Texas & Caddo, Apache & Comanchee are the tribes known to have occupied my land, before my ancestors took it.

The spear head is shaped like this <- with a slight bulge that appears to have been made for wrapping it to the shaft.

Typically we find them along a creek or in the walls that have erroded over the years.

Can anyone give me a link where a spear point like this might be pictured?

  1. Here is a link that just might answer your question.

  2. Could you possibly bring them to a local college or museum and see if anyone there might have an idea of what they are?

  3. A better description would be projectile points. They could be atlatl points or spear points. They seem too big to be arrowheads.
