  1. possibly burned out the fuel pump by running it dry....you could have blown the fuel pump relay or the fuel pump fuse.

in addition to possibly plugging the fuel filter with sediment..etc

there are other issues but i would need to know what make model and year your vehicle is

  2. What kind of vehicle do to have ????

The Fords have a inertia switch that you could check if you have one but other than that most cars dont......

It is very possible that the fuel pump is burned up because you need the fuel to cool down the fuel pump....

  3. I agree with the others who said fuel pump.  Modern cars all have electric fuel pumps in the tank.  They depend on gas to lubricate and cool them, without that they are quite fragile and burn out quickly.   That's why it's best to keep at least 1/8 tank in your car, helps the fuel pump stay cool.

If somebody sat there on the side of the road, out of gas with the key turned on, the fuel pump would try and try and try until it burned out.   Don't do that :)

There's also a fuel pump fuse somewhere, and some cars have a fuel pump shutoff but it's triggered by shock, like in an accident.

  4. If I knew what kind of vehicle you are talking about, I might be able to help you.
