Do they change the passport number when we apply for a duplicate passport in the lieu of loss of original one?

I applied for a duplicate passport becausei lost mine. My original passport was issued from Trichy whereas i am applying for the duplicate one from bangalore. will they change the passport number?

  1. Lucky you..your new passport will probably have a RFID chip allowing the Government to track you anywhere you go.

    My advice is to stick your passports in the microwave to disable the chip.. it will still be valid.

  5. If you mention the lost passport, they would issue the duplicate passport mentioning the old passport number in the new and you can utilise the old passport number if there is any issue pending with it.
