  1. No

  2. First, a locksmith would have definitely been the better choice.  Second, the fire department can charge for any call they chose to.  Police departments can also do this, but it is not as common.  Also, there will not be a charge for simply placing the call.

  3. you need to call a locksmith, not 911, 911 is for emrgencies dummy

  4. Not yet in UK but watch this space

  5. 911 has a surcharge as others have stated, you do not pay on a per call basis.

Very few places have fees set up for repeated calls to 911, VERY few.  But if you are pranking or abusing the 911 system it is a crime.

There is no delay when calling 911.  Calls to 911 go through just as fast as any other call.  And not all 911 centers have the ability to track cellular calls, but a vast majority do get the call back number and address for landline calls.

There are dozens of different CAD systems in use nationwide, so there is no such thing as a commonly used CAD system.

  6. no, but thats not an emergency so dont waste their time

  7. You can call 911 anytimme but there is about a dollar charge every month on both the cell phone bill and the landline bill.

  8. no they dont

  9. --- I don't think them cutting into your basement would have anything to do with the 911 system. There is no in-home hardware that goes with 911.

--- If it was for some power realated issue that is via the power company, not the 911 phone system. And yes you can bet they will be charging you, I have no idea of how much.

--- The 911 emergency call system is not exactly free, but you do not have to pay to make the 911 calls at the time you make them and not at all from pay phones or public phones.

--- If you check your phone bill you will see that you have a surcharge added every month for the 911 system of your County or Parrish. It's not very much, usually 50 cents to a dollar a month is charged.

--- However, you can be billed a larger surcharge if more than 1 or 2 false alarm 911 calls originate from your phone. Its similar to what they do when your burglar alarm goes off every week. After one or 2 freebies they hit you with a user fee. This can be anywhere from $25 to $50 for each additional false call. So don't play games on 911

--- So you are paying for it, just not when you are actually using it.

--- Also, all public phones must be set to allow the number 911 to go through for free. If you need to report an emergency via a pay phone simply pick up the hand set and then dial in 911.

--- It will usually take 5 to 8 seconds for the number to start ringing because this is the time the CAD system is using to trace your location so when the operator picks up they already know where the call is coming from. In that way if you are forced to hang up suddenly before you can finish your call they know where to send help.  CAD is Computer Assisted Dispatching.

--- I placed a url/link in the source box to a sample 911/ CAD explanation site. The location is Cary NC but their system is the same one as most Cities and Counties that sport Emergency Centers or Communications Centers with CAD and enhanced 911 use. They have a page that explains these systems if you are interested.

  10. you pay a monthly fee. look at your phone bill.

some communities charge for fire calls.

in fruitport, MI, if you don't register a campfire and someone calls on you thinking the forrest is on fire........they charge you $75.
