  1. Yes opticians tend to pick up on eye diseases early on . And referred you to a doctor.

  2. the free ones don't....

  3. The floaters are just dirt, but it will eventually be removed by the lacrimal glands.

  4. Yes. Anything at all wrong with your eyes will be picked up.There won't be another test, and if there was anything else wrong with your eyes you would have been told there and then.

  5. These days the eye test is very thorough and should pick up the majority of significant eye conditions. 'Floaters' are impurities in the vireous humor of the eye, the develop with age, are harmless and are generally not treated.

  6. Floaters are generally normal and harmless.  If you don't mention it to the eye doctor, we don't mention it to you, generally.  If they are accompanied by flashing lights, or you get a whole bunch of them all at once, or there appears to be a curtain or veil blocking part of you vision, that's not normal and you should let your eye doctor know right away.  It could mean the retina is detaching.  But floaters alone are so common place, they don't hit our radar unless you complain about them, and even then, they're generally harmless, just annoying.

  7. Hmmm. go ask but I think they are normal - bits of capillaries floating across your eye.

  8. it depends. when you go for an eye test you should ask them to check for everything just to make sure.

  9. yes

  10. They should check for everything, however if you are at a higher risk for something like glaucoma or if they notice something, they may recommend you have more exstensive tests done.  If you are in question of something, just ask whether or not you should have extra tests done.  There are more tests out there than a basic eye exam.  I am at a high risk for glaucoma, so I get my eyes dilated more often, I have visual field exams and I had this really cool machine that took a pictur of the back of my eye so the doctor could examine more thouroughly.  Good luck
