Do they do a drug test if you are applying for a paper route job?

I have an interview on friday for a paper route job and I just wanted to know if they drug test or background check? Thanks

It would likely depend if you were considered as an employee of the newspaper (which most people with paper routes are not) or an independent contractor of with the paper.  As an independent contractor, you are liable for your own accidents, and would then be required to carry your own liability insurance and the paper would absolve itself of any responsibility.  If you are an employee of the paper, and would be driving, it is likely that a urine drug screen would be required.

If I was counsel to the newspaper, I would strongly encourage it.  Because they will the party who bears the greatest monetary responsibility.  In the U.S. an accident in which the defendant, the newspaper here, has money and insurance can just get ready to hand out up to a million based on some doctor saying the victim will never get over the cervical strain.

No. It isn't cost effective for them to do so. If you worked ON the paper, yes.
