There is a long causeway to the islands for cars and trains with a big parking lot at the end. There are no cars after that point.

Funny you should ask!  I was there this summer.  No cars allowed, and no motorcyles either.  The streets and bridges were built for pedestrians and you can't get a car into or over many of them.  It's really wonderful not to have the noise of cars and trucks ad to be able to walk anywhere without worrying about being hit by a vehicle..  The only motors you hear are on the boats that travel the main canals--the firemen, police, ambulances, FedEx, whatever, it all moves by boat.  They even use brooms to sweep the streets instead of leaf blowers and other machines.

No, because generally speaking, cars don't float very well. And the streets are barely wide enough for people to pass each other, let alone 2 cars.

Generally speaking, the answer is: no! and it's fantastic to realize that you can live happily without it. In the detail: you can reach Venice by car  from the mainland (Mestre) but you must stop at piazzale Roma (there are parkings and garages), then you can walk (i love it!) or take a boat or water taxi.. or a  gondola! cars are not allowed either in the historical center of Venice and in the islands of its lagoon, except Lido where the film festival is organized: to reach the Lido by car you take the ferry near piazzale Roma.

Yes, but not like you would see in any other city. Venice is made up of many islands. The cars are only used to travel outside the city. There is no to get them inside. The busses and taxis are boats, there is also the gondola's. You will see that a lot of native people don't sit while ridine in the gondola.

nope.venice is a walking city ... cars onli be found at Piazza de ROMA where is the Bus station connected to Aeroporto MARCO POLO n TREVISO n MESTRE n other VENETIAN CITY... in venice isle.no cars.so jus walk.i walk for 2 hous to make a circle..n 1 hour to finish the grand canal...so its nice for walking ..^^

Not in Venice Old town because you can only get about by water taxi or gondoladas etc, and all streets on land (terra firma)are pedestrianised. Once in Land there are residential industrial parts of Venice that obviously do have road networks an Cars.

There is a bridge for cars, buses  and  trains from mainland to Venice which ends in a plaza , there are large parking buildings for local resident cars and tourists , there you have to live your car and from  there  all the transportation is by some sort of boats .

There are no cars in Venice proper. You have to take a water taxi into the islands but trains and bus stations are located very nearby and you can walk from the train station to the main square (if you don't have luggage!). Otherwise, your best bet is to take a water taxi.
