  1. money wasted

  2. It is not money wasted. The calcium powder is essential to their health. Without it your pet could develop metabolic bone disease.

  3. I have pacific tree frogs and I give them a calcium powder.  If you decide to buy some, which you should, make sure the calcium powder is phosphorus free. I dust my crickets with it every week and a half.  You can research how often you should be dusting for your specific tree frog or even call your local exotic vet, they'd know best.  Too little calcium and too much can both cause bone disorders and diseases so make sure you're giving them enough, it's really important.

There's other supplements but I've noticed that if you feed your crickets or other live foods a healthy and varied diet of fresh fruits and vegetables then it's fine.  You can find a safe food list for crickets online.  You can basically feed them any kind of fruits or vegetables as long as they aren't very acidic like oranges and tomatoes.
