Here's what you want; these are a list of stores that hold FNM(Friday Night Magic) the standard Magic tournaments.  Everyone's friendly, and there are new and old players galore.

There are lots of card tournaments in Louisianna, I know there are PTQ's monthly and Prereleases for every set.  If you are looking for a local place to play look in your phonebook under comics, collectables, or games and you may find a local store.  also at the friday night magic website  FNM you can  find games as well.
