  1. This is way to small for two rats. (even one) Google rat cages

if your having trouble. Do NOT use a 10 gallon tank, one of these is only big enough for three MICE (even with a tank topper)

  2. thats the same one i have and i got it for 40 bucks sorry but i got mine at petco

  3. Well to start, rats are very social animals and should always be kept in pairs or groups. That cage is NOT big enough for two rats. It would be fine as a VERY temporary cage, such as for quarantine, but not as a permanent home. So you're going to want to buy something larger than that cage.

    Cage calculator.

I doubt you'll find anything that is large enough for rats that is less than $70 unless you buy a used cage. I suggest you check your local newspaper classifieds and sites like http://www.craigslist.org for a used cage.

Keep in mind that rats are not cheap pets to keep. In you're unable/unwilling to spend more than $40 for the cage, maybe you should reconsider getting rats as pets.

  4. I got a 10 gallon tank for my rats and put a cage topper on it. It only cost me 30 bucks and they can roam around, much more space than that little one. the only thing thats bad about it is you have to take off the entire top to actually reach down in it. And I have two rats so when i am trying to clean it out its a hassle. the other rat trys to ecape. they can jump high. lol. But best bet is to just buy a 10 gal tank and then put a wired top on it. I went to superpetz.

  5. In all honesty that cage is far too small for one rat never mind 2 as they should be kept with company of their own kind. In reality for a rat cage you should be looking to invest in a cage at around the £100 mark which is around $200 I think however the currency changes all of the time and I don't know is america is more expensive than England. Do the right thing and spend the money to give your rats happy lives! x

  6. That's about as small as I would ever go.

My gerbils have a bigger home than that and I worry about it being too small. :]

I would be looking bigger if I were you.

If you love the rat enough, cost shouldn't matter.

Although, please make sure you have a couple hundred dollars set aside for vet bills or procedures popping up unexpectedly.

With the size of that cage, the ammonia may be quick to build up, so make sure it gets cleaned OFTEN, and be sure to get the rat out for plenty of hands-on playtime.

  7. i have that exact same cage , and it was big enough when they were really little now its to small for them .so i had to get a bigger one , now they have a ferret cage. so i would say if your really wanting rats get the biggest cage you can afford now so you dont have to buy another, rats really do need alot of room .I hate how these pet stores carry cages for rats that dont  do much justice for them
