  1. Being someone who is not a fan of the membership of Augusta National, it would be easy for me to just say "yes." But it would not be true. Augusta National lengthened the golf course to protect the integrity of the Masters in relation to par. It was not about Mr. Woods. It was an easy decision when par 4's that used to be driver, then mid or long iron, became three-wood then short iron that it was time to change. Advances in agronomy, irrigation, the golf ball itself, and to some extent golf clubs as well led to the decision. Augusta National would lose it's character if they narrowed the enormous fairways. The only way to remain true to the original design and shot values was to lengthen the course and move fairway bunkers.

  2. Lengthening the course only makes it tougher for the shorter hitters to win the tournament.  Take Shinnecock for example.  It's less than 7000 yards in length and brought the field to its knees in 2004.  To make a course tougher, you tighten it, not lengthen it.

  3. I believe they just want to make the tougest course possible for everyone. it is a major and it should be a score of 10 under that wins it not 22 under which is a course set up for the tvviewer. That is golfs equivalant to oneday cricket

  4. Definitly remember when he blew through the field in one for the ages. Well that  is not going to happen now.

  5. They aren't lengthening it because of tiger, but because of what he started and the equipment changes. Everything goes farther now. Plus, players are becoming stronger and more muscular because Tiger is and he wins. He has made golfers athletes in the public's eyes.

  6. Well that wouldn't make sense because Tiger is one of the longer hitters on tour, so lengthening the holes would give him more of an advantage.  They are just trying to make the course as difficult as possible.
