Do they look at your backround?

for a first job.

im going to work for my bfs mother at a flower shop.

and he doesnt know that two years ago.

me and my friend got caught shoplifting,

and id like to keep that from him.

i just need to know if they do a backround, its my first job.

Any sensible employer will do a background and criminal record check.

usually they do, but if it's for a small place and a semi-relative, they may not. But you should trust him enough to tell him that you made a mistake.

They might, or they might not, it depends on the employer. Nothing you can really do about it - your secret might come out at any time. If he finds out, either your boyfriend will forgive you, or he wasn't worth being with anyway.

Unfortunately (but not for you), it isn't often that employers to do any background checking -though it really depends on the type of job.  

Let's put it this way:  There's A LOT of ex-cons working at places where they lied about their past.

Even if you don't get a job, it usually means that they didn't like your resume or your job interview -not because you didn't mention something about your past.  

If you don't get this particular job, don't get discouraged;  Just keep trying elsewhere.  Getting rejected for something is a part of life, so deal with it gracefully.
