The other day I got pulled over for driving without a seat belt. The cop never gave me a ticket though. Does that mean he let me go without one? Or do they send those in the mail now??

  1. I have never mailed someone a ticket after a traffic stop.  If you didn't get one at the time, I doubt you will.

  2. While it's hard to say because I don't know the procedures for every department in the nation, but generally, if the officer took your driver's license, he returned to the car and ran a background check to determine if you had any outstanding warrants.  If you weren't issued a citation at that time, I wouldn't worry about it.

However, most jurisdictions allow two years for a sworn complaint to be filed in a court, in which case, you'd be notified of a hearing.

The short answer - you likely got away on this one.

  3. only reason i can think of of why they would mail one to you is if a camera caught you running a red light and happend to catch you without a seatbelt. he probably just let you go because he woulda writen you for it on the spot if he was going to give you a ticket for it
