I have a camcorder with a DV cable output (IEEE). I need to put the video onto my computer, which has a USB 2.0 port. I was wondering if they made firewire to USB conversion cales or anything like that?

  1. You can't get a conversion cable as they are totally different protocols..unfortunately. USB will never get near the quality or usability you'll get with Firewire. Firewire cards are very cheap though...get one and forget about all things USB for video.

    Best of luck.

  2. Hey.   I worked at a computer store and there were no such thing as an firewire to usb adapter.  At least, none that we carried.  There were some that I was able to find online, but from what I heard, the best thing to do is to just get a PCI card with firewire ports if you have a slot open.  That way you can just use a firewire cable (4pin to 6pin is the one that I'm guessing you'll need) and not loose any speed when transferring your video to your computer (usb is not as fast as firewire when it comes to video).  Make sure the 4pin fits your camera before you buy it!  There was a package that claimed to be 4 pin and looked just like a 4pin, but didn't fit.  But than we tried another 4pin from the same manufacturer and it worked.  Hope I was helpful.  -A.K.
