I would love to use it to watch Blu-ray Movies on my HDTV since my laptop has a blu-ray drive.

  1. Unfortunately that is not possible. HDMI needs to support transfer rates of 5 Gbit / s ... for HDMI 1.3a it would even be slightly more than 10 Gbit / s. (Keep in mind: HDMI always transfers uncompressed video and can also deliver uncompressed multi channel audio)

Even Expresscards can't surpass 2,5 Gbit / s right now ... the older PC Card standard doesn't go far beyond 1 Gbit / s or something like that.

EDIT: just googled a bit: long term something like the box in the link below might do the trick, but that won't help for notebooks without this connector or whatever they are using / intend to use.: http://ati.amd.com/technology/xgp/index....

However: If your notebook has a DVI out you might check whether it supports hdcp. You could then use an adapter if that's the case. (technically dvi is compatible to hdmi ... just without the audio-part as far as I know) If your DVI Out (should your notebook have one) should not support hdcp you could still hook it up to a device with a hdmi in and play material (including video in HD resolution) that does not use the copy protection hdcp.

  2. Yeah, you can get a Video card with HDMI out.  Or if you have a video card with DVI monitor out (not VGA) you can just get a little DVI to HDMI adapter, and use a standard HDMI cable.  That's probably a lot cheaper than buying a new card.

Since HDMI and DVI are both digital, there is no signal loss.

EDIT:  Haha, please read the answer thoroughly!  why can't you get a new video card for your laptop?  You don't need one though, you can use an adapter if you have a DVI monitor out on your laptop.
