Do they make a piece of equipment that will control (naturalize) both high and low volume, inline?

I'm looking for a production quality piece of equipment, not consumer grade. It needs to be able to naturalize volume levels. It should be capable of raising low level volume (without distortion --- within reason, obviously depending on how soft the source volume is), capable of lowering high level volume (this should be able to be done absolutely without distortion) and should be able to do both with minimal response time in a continuous use environment. I'm fairly sure there has to be a piece of inline equipment that will do this (I own 3 Lectrosonics AM8 mixers, they're capable but are used for preprocessing before signal is sent through Modulator to on air provider ComCast), input type isn't a big concern, I can adapt. If anyone knows, could you provide the name of the piece of equipment, or a link to one. Thanks
