Do they make digital SLR cameras that take great photos like the old film SLRs? For how much?

By 'great': can you control the depth of field, "shutter" speed etc. to capture flowing water, blur or freeze action intentionally knock the unwanted background out of focus and so on, as well as a film camera does?

  1. There's plenty of cameras like that available.  The most popular ones are by Canon and Nikon.  I have a Nikon D80 that does all that, and more.

They sell for around $600 to $3,000 and more, depending on the model and lens.

  2. That's what you get an SLR for, the control and the options. You can adjust it all to you liking and for your needs just like the old 35-mm.  Not only can you do that BUT now you get to see the photo you took before you have it printed.  Then you can edit the photos on your computer and add effects and things.

DSLRs are what the pros are using now a days.  All the photos in Magazines all DSLR.  35-mm is a thing of the past.  I still think that in the dark room there are effects you can get that can not be duplicated by digital in the same way.

I was anti Digital for a few years.  I see now that I was silly to have waited so long to get a DSLR.

If you are in the market to make the switch.  Start doing your research. There are so many DSLR from many different price ranges.  See what one fits your needs. Go to the camera shops talk to them and test them out first hand. See if it feels right since I'm guessing this will be your first DSLR.  Good luck and welcome to the digital world.  It's fun.

  3. Suggest you look at a Panasonic dmc-fz8

Under $300  and can pretty much what you want.

check out some of the camera review web sites.

    i.e. DCRESOURCE.COM

(happens to explain the Panasonic camera that

    I like and have.)
