  1. The Navy requires women to cut their hair for RTC.  However, the individual can grow it out afterwards; she must keep it pulled back though.

  2. I don't think so.

My aunt is in the military and her hair is pretty long.

Does the military have a handbook?

If so, there should be guidelines concerning the proper hair length.

    Hope this helps!

  3. The Navy is the ONLY branch of service that makes the women cut their hair. Approximately to the chin. You need to keep this height thoughout bootcamp. After, you can grow it out.

Marines, Army, Air Force and Coast Guard do not make the women cut thier hair.

  4. No you don't have to.  I was in the Army and we didn't.  But from experience you may want it short for the first couple of months of training.  It is cooler that way and easier to clean and take care of.

  5. They don't make you cut your hair.  If it's too short to put up, then it has to be off your collar.  If you wear it up then it should be in a bun.  You can only wear hair ties that match the color of your hair and that includes hair clips as well.  no loose hair can dangle.

We would cut the toe off a sock and roll the sock into a doughnut.  Put your hair up into a ponytail and put the sock around it like a hair tie.  Spread your hair around the sock and put another hair tie over that.  It'll give the allusion of a perfect bun and I mean perfect!  Don't twist your hair around it, find the middle and push all the hair in opposite directions to cover the sock...does that make sense?  Good luck!

  6. It really depends on which branch you join.

The Navy DOES cut women's hair. It is cut in a short bob and kept that way throughout boot camp. Men's hair is buzz cut. My advice is if you join the Navy, cut it beforehand to a length that will keep it off your collar throughout the 8 weeks. This way you can cut it the way you want to and not look like an idiot.

  7. no, they do not. HOWEVER....being a solider, I have learned that having short cropped hair is the best for basic, saves time.

Long hair is ok...but you have to be able to throw it up in a perfect bun in about 5 minutes...so the choice is yours..

  8. In boot camp, your hair will be cut short.  Not a buzz cut like the guys, but your hair will be cut.

  9. No they dont, but u can, I cut my hair short for basic training so i wouldnt have to pull it up.  cuz female's have to have thier hair pulled up in the military. and it can not be touching the collar of ur shirt ect. they are very strict about it.  But it is a pain when u grow it back out, and keeping it up to army regulations.

  10. No, but you have to have it pulled back according to standards.

  11. I think you are getting lots of mixed answers because it is not just a one step thing. Just like guys have to get their hair cut at boot camp but can have it their own style later on in their training it just has to be regulation. I would guess that would be true of the women too. My son just went to MEPS and said that several of the women backed out when they saw what they would have to go through just to get signed up so you need to really think about it if you are going to join. There are a lot more embarrassing things that you are going to have to worry about then the length of your hair.

  12. I don't know about the other branches, but here's the regulation for the army.

A female's hair will be pulled tightly to the scalp, out of the way of headgear and off the face. It is permitted to secure the hair in the back in a bun, which will not exceed lengths of 4 inches by 4 inches.

Hair may be dyed, but the color will be a normal color. (So a blond can dye brown, but not dual coloring, blue, orange, etc).

  13. no

the army regulation says it is :

    ar670-1

type it into search and it will bring up all of the regulations stated for it but that is a no as a woman we do not have to cut our hair

  14. i dont thinkl so but you have to tie it up really tight like to the max

  15. No, but you have to have it held back (like in a ponytail or some such) during boot camp and while in uniform. But no shaving you're head or anything.

  16. Your hair has to be collar length if you wanna wear it down, but if you have it any longer length you have to wear it in a bun while on duty. So the answer to your question is no, you do not have to cut your hair unless you wanna wear it down on duty.

  17. YES THEY DO GUYS THEY GOT TO HAVE IT BALD AND DA GURLS SHORT IN A PONY TAIL!!!
