Do they play soccer in India?

In 1907, when the UK held its iron grip on India, and opressed the Indian people, one British Army general noted:

"The Indian man is like a newly born foal when it comes to the game. His clumbsy, shapeless style renders him useless at the sport."

So the English's oppinion is no.

But they have recently created a proffessional league, and because the country's so over-populated, gates at the stadiums are usually over 40,000.

But the standard is low, as is the overall interest. The top two sports in India are Cricket and field hockey.

The national side has never qualified for the World Cup, and almost all Indian players playing in Europe were born in Europe.

soccer is played all  over the world ...even in America where Americans deny this...even though they have the largest number of youth players compared  to any other country in the world....

they play all over the world.............even thought sometimes you dont hear about teams, but im sure they play soccer there

They do play but India has been known as a

stronghold in the Cricket Leagues. There was

a movement in the late 70's to reintroduce

Soccer( futball) to the Hindu population. Young

ladies were discouraged from playing until

about the mid 1990's, but with the popularity

of the Movie  "Bend it Like Beckham", young

Indian women have taken up the cause of

equal rights and Female soccer programs

have experienced momentous growth.

yes, they do but its not that popular. although, they did try out for fifa and i don't know what the score is though.
