I got a new Compaq laptop at the beginning of May, and when I'd open the Office, it said I needed a product key...I didn't get a book or anything so I have no idea where that product key is...I am using it without the key, apparently it's the trial version or whatever. I bought it from Office Depot.

I thought the software CAME with the laptop.

It should. d**n. This is pissing me off.

  1. No, they give you a trial version.  You can go to ms and buy a key online, or go to a store and buy a full package.

  2. go to start

    all programs

    scroll down to microsoft office

    click that

under that would open all the microsoft office programs

    click Activation Assistant for Microsoft

    follow the instructions

    hope this helps

    :]

  3. If you got your operating system pre-installed, you would have also gotten a recovery driver for the operating system. The product key could be on the recovery driver that you will use to confirm that the OS has been installed.

  4. Probably because that's what it is ! A TRIAL version.

Check your invoice to see if the price included a FULL version of office.

Just download the FREE office suite from www.openoffice.org.

BUT first open any existing file and use teh SAVE AS function to save as Office 2000 format files, as the new word 2007 files are a new format.

  5. you need to BUY a product key. laptops only come with trial versions of software.

  6. ok here is the deal .. Office and probable u got some sort of Anti Virus .. Norton or Macaffe .. they come as Trail ..

Anyways .. if u need any help with computers, u can IM me any time .. take care
