  1. No. I'm from Australia and I never heard of all this anti-home education bull$hit until I ventured in here. My family have homeschooled since 1901, as have many others up here.

    Hannah (15yr old Aussie Unschooler)

  2. Not very often with us.

I ask these would be so smart public school kids to answer some questions that I have for our home schooling history program and they cannot answer. Many of them even like the idea of putting friends over education.

If socialization is so great then why do some schools have metal detectors and all of them have bans on knives. We used to be able to carry knives as kids to school but not anymore because too many cowardly public school kids aren't learning anything from their parents about morals. It's easier to kill a student than to talk with them.

In spite of what happens on a daily basis I find it disgusting how some parents can trust their kids around a possible child molesting teacher or how they have no problem having their kids attend such a violent and hate filled environment.

Public school kids have the idea that socialization means to harass and bully other students. That stealing and drug use will make friends. Some of these kids are so stupid they do drugs just to fit in. If you have to do something to fit in then you don't belong to begin with.

Some parents don't home school because they both work and don't have any choice. Some actually trust public schools and naively believe that nothing will happen to their kids. But then other parents are just plain too lazy to do anything with their own children that requires any real thought and they dump them in the school system to fend for themselves. Then when their kid attacks a student or does wrong in another way these parents are the first ones to whine about how perfect their kids are.

So what, a public school kid has more friends. But are they true friends or is it just a ruse? What did they have to sacrifice or do to obtain that friend? If that friend wants to trash a house late at night or a car or ambush a student is that friend going to take the fall with them or rat them out to save their own hide?

Look at the third graders that plotted an attack on a teacher. The 6 girls that lured and beat down a fellow student? What part of that form of socialization is good? And what the h**l are the parents doing during all of this? Why haven't these parents taught these kids better rather than baby them?

When the 17 year old know it all girl down the street asked our 11 year old when did D-Day began he had no problem quickly answering. But when our son asked her what are the definitions of KGB, NOAA, and WD-40, what was the only naval battle in history where the ships never saw each other, and where is the world's highest elevated lake, she could not answer and told our son he was an idiot.

So much for public school education/socialization.

  3. People can be negative, but it is mostly because of ignorance or misinformation.  I have found that it is best to be confident in my decision and direct when answering questions.  Here's some information that may help you feel more confident:

  4. Oh man, they're at it all the time.  We're Canadian. If you tell anyone that you homeschool, people automatically presume that you want their opinion.  It 's always the stereotypical socialization nonsense, too.  I actually have a relative that takes it upon herself to question my children's knowledge. She quizzes them. The funny thing is, my kids are all at least one to two grade levels ahead.  Her son has spent almost ten years in a posh private school, and he can't compose a legible sentence.  My advice to you would be to turn a deaf ear to people's uneducated opinions.  Do what you know to be best for your kids and don't make any excuses for it.  My kids are intelligent, happy, safe, healthy, confident, interested, curious, stimulated, secure, accelerated and together.  My kids are not bored, bullied, lonely, intimidated, teased, ostracized, left behind, miserable or "unsocialized".

  5. The vast majority of people went to school themselves and just can't get their heads around there being an alternative. So yes, there are ignorant anti-home ed types mouthing off over here in the UK. I sometimes wonder if some of them are so against it because they're afraid that it DOES work rather than that it doesn't.

  6. Yes they do. But people often pretend to have an informed opinion about things they don't understand.
