  1. If you use your passport to enter Canada, yes, it will be scanned.


  2. You need to prove your identity and citizenship.  If you are a Canadian or American citizen, a govt. ID (such as drivers license) and certified copy of birth certificate is OK.  All other nationalities, passports are required.  Passports, of course, be scanned if that is what you are using to enter the country.  When you make the reservation, need to tell Amtrak then what ID you will be carrying so that it can be sent to the border officials before you get there.

  3. Last time I went to Canada I didn't use a passport, I used a state issued driver's license and a birth certificate. This is acceptable as long as you travel  by ground which is what Amtrak is.
